This course introduces students to major theories and debates about knowledge, power and politics in cultural studies. It examines how knowledge and cultural distinctions are produced through discourse, discipline, habitus and symbolic power. It then considers public action, the politics of aesthetics, dissensus and intellectual emancipation to ask how political subjects and shared worlds emerge. Finally, it explores embodied and relational accounts of knowing, multiplicity, networks, assemblages, situated knowledge and nonhuman agency. Through close reading and comparative discussion, students examine the relations between cultural reproduction and change.
